ABSTRACT

The title of this paper is A CONVERSATIONAL IMPLICATURE ANALYSIS ON J.K. ROWLING’S HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS: A PRAGMATIC STUDY. In this paper, the writer discusses conversational implicature in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The objectives of the study are to identify the implicature utterances uttered by the characters in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, to describe the implied meaning uttered by the characters in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and to describe the cooperative principles occur in the conversation of the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

An Analysis of Tourism Jargon Used in Tourism Department in SMK NEGERI 4 Yogyakarta

ABSTRACT

This research entitled “An Analysis of Tourism Jargon Used in Tourism Department in SMK NEGERI 4 Yogyakarta” is intended to describe the forms of tourism jargon, the meaning of tourism jargon and the function of tourism jargon used in SMK NEGERI 4 Yogyakarta.

This study belongs to descriptive qualitative research. It does not use statistical procedures, and the use of qualitative research is suitable with the method of analyzing data in this research. The data are taken from the students of SMK NEGERI 4 Yogyakarta, internet and other books. In collecting the data the researcher used observation and interview method. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. 

The result of the research shows that the forms of tourism jargon in SMK N 4 Yogyakarta, are: words, phrases, acronyms, and abbreviations. Concerning the functions of tourism jargon the researcher found four functions of tourism jargon, they are: (1) to exclude lay people or novices, (2) to use for social identification, (3) to serve the purpose of bonding friendship, and (4) to make the communication effective and efficient. Researcher found two kinds of meaning in tourism jargon, namely connotative and denotative meaning.
