ABSTRACT
This research entitled “English and Javanese Passive Voice: A Comparative Study” discusses the comparison between English and Javanese passive voice. It is aimed at finding out similarities and differences of passive voice in both languages.
This research uses qualitative method because the researcher describes the data in form of text and does not use any statistical procedure. The researcher uses some books of grammar and linguistics both in English and Javanese as the data source of this research. The techniques used in collecting the data are noting, separating, transferring, and changing technique. In analyzing the data, the researcher applies description and comparison techniques. She identifies the forms of passive voice, compares English and Javanese passive voice form, finds out the differences and the similarities between English and Javanese passive voice form and draws the conclusion.
The result shows that English and Javanese passive voice have similarities and differences. The similarities lie on the existence of passive voice in statements and questions. The differences lie on the tenses (verb inflection), concord, and particle ta in tag question.
