Queer Studies: An Interdiciplinary Reader (Paperback)
Editorial Reviews
Review
"There is much here that is fascinating and adds to our knowledge of the multiplicity of ways in which people experience and live their sexualities." Sexualities
"Refusing the easy collapse of queer studies into gay and lesbian studies, Corber and Valocchi offer scholars and activists a collection of essays that maps the complexities of non-normative desires as they are produced in and through social institutions, economic practices, disciplinary structures, and cultural discourse. In the process, they reclaim the political hope that queer studies is a radical intervention into regimes of being and knowing!" Robyn Wiegman, Duke University
"Queer Studies may very well be the first Reader that students and professors should consult to get an overview of the field. Interdisciplinary, ambitious, and accessible, the volume is a fine contribution to this dynamic field." Steven Seidman, University at Albany, State University of New York

Learning how to decipher the technical jargon surrounding research is never easy. This book makes it easy. Along with thorough explanations and an abundance of examples, there is a bit of humor tossed in. The humor helps break up the intense explanations. There are also many charts and graphs that help synthesize the information into an easy learning format. I would recommend this book for anyone who has to learn about research.
- MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, Sixth Edition (Paperback)
Knowledge of MLA formatting is a necessity for writing college research papers these days. As an older, part-time college student, I found myself lacking the skills to properly cite information in my papers. Not having time to take an entry level English class, to learn the MLA style, I turned to the MLA Handbook for guidance.
This easy to use book has been a lifesaver! The book is well organized and provides plenty of examples. The table of contents is broken down so well, something that is not common enough in textbooks, that within minutes of picking up the book, you have a concrete example of what you need.
Each section starts with the most basic example of citing from a particular type of work and builds, step-by-step, to a complete citation. The applicable example for entry into the Works Cited Page can be found with ease as well.
If you will be writing research papers, or currently find yourself having difficulty citing, this is a tool you should strongly consider.

- The Craft of Research, 2nd edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing) (Paperback)
The authors of The Craft of Research, Wayne C. Booth, Gregory G. Colomb and Joseph M. Williams, presented a scholarly, practical guide to mastering the art of research. They provided a book with tested programmes for turning rough drafts and clumsy prose into clear, powerful and effective writing. The authors presented their propositions, arguments and solutions in a logical, thorough and convincing manner.
The authors produced a unique guide that shows that real research loops back and forth. They explain how each part of the process influences all the others. The authors showed that asking a question about a topic can prepare the researcher to draft a paper, how the process of drafting can reveal problems with an argument, and how the elements of a good introduction can reveal the need for additional research.
The authors encourage researchers to put themselves into the shoes of the readers. They explained how that can be done, by explaining how readers read. Understanding how readers read enables the researcher to know better how to meet their expectations and help readers to see things the researcher's way.
The book teaches skills that are essential to the success of any research project. These include finding a topic, generating research questions, constructing arguments, creating a first draft, and revising that draft for a final report that meets the needs of a community of readers.
The book reflects the way researchers work, proceeding from a complex loop of thinking, writing, revising, refining and rethinking. The book teaches that a successful research project is a carefully orchestrated conversation between researcher and reader.
The book is essential reading before one goes to a library or begin collecting data, presenting evidence or doing an outline, as its expertise is essential in giving direction to the research efforts.
