ABSTRACT
The title of this research is Love Affair in Graham Greene’s The End of The Affair Viewed from Islamic Criticism. The writer is motivated to choose the novel The End of The Affair as her topic in this S-1 thesis because of the following reasons; firstly, The End of The Affair as a masterpiece of Graham Greene’s work is very interesting tobe discussed. Secondly, the language, the vocabulary, the structure of the novel are not too difficult to be understood. Thirdly, Graham Greene presents theme and issues that are particular interesting for the writer. The description the love affair between a man and a woman during The Word War II in London. The objectives of the research are to describe (1) Love affair in The End of The Affair. (2) The law of love affair based on Holy Koran and Propeth’s Tradition.
In this research, the writer uses the Islamic literary criticism by Subhan (2000: 91) to view about love affair. The subject of the research is the novel entitled The End of The Affair written by Graham Greene and the object of the research is focused on the love affair of main character and also the law of love affair based on Holy Koran and Propet’s Tradition.
To get the data and information, the writer employs a library research. The data collecting method is used in this research. The data analyzing method is descriptive analysis, which its technique is started with some quotations and statemens that are described by some explanations. The result of this thesis can be described as follows: (1) Bendrix’s characterization in Graham Greene’s The End of The Affair is hard worker, faithful, lover, hater and jealousy. (2) The love affair of the main character persisted for long time, but during the blitz in London, Bendrix’s house is hit by a bomb while the couple are in bed, and he is nearly killed. Inexplicably and without warning, Sarah breaks off their relationship. (3) Love affair viewed from Islamic criticism is forbiden. It is a big sin. It was arranged on the Holy Koran and Prophet’s Tradition.
