ABSTRACT

The title of this research is The Different View of Death as Reflected in David Herbert Lawrence’s and Christina Rossetti’s Poetry The Ship of Death and Sleeping At Last. The aims of this research is to analyze the different view of death on Christina Rossetty and David Herbert Lawrence’s poems Sleeping at Last and The Ship of Death by using deconstruction approach.

In this research, the writer uses deconstruction concept to analyze the poem. To collect the data, the writer visits many libraries, does critical reading of the poem and reads several related books. Besides using library research, the writer also takes the data from internet to get some information of the poem and the author’s biography completely. After the data are collected, they are analyzed by using descriptive qualitative technique to give clear explanation of the objective study.

Based on the research, the writer obtains some significant findings. The Ship of Death and Sleeping At Last brings some values to be understood, that death is not like our societies believe that it is an afraid thing, then they always try to avoid on it. Death is a natural thing, it is no need to be afraid on it because there is no rejecting of the death and every one will experience the death absolutely without knows when it comes. We have to prepare ourselves on facing the death, because joyful has been waiting on us in the world of the death. In conclusion, analyzing the poem by using deconstruction study is very interesting because the writer can analyze the poem form whatever sides and it does not be bunched by any structure.
