CHILDREN FRIENDSHIP IN AFGHANISTAN TRIBES AS REFLECTED IN KHALED HOSSEINI’S THE KITE RUNNER: A SOCIOLOGICAL STUDY

ABSTRACT

One of Khaled Hosseini’s works is The Kite Runner. One aspect stood out of this novel is children friendship in Afghanistan tribe as reflected in the novel. This research entitled “Children Friendship in Afghanistan Tribe as Reflected in Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner” is intended to describe the Afghan’s life and the children friendship and explor the moral values of the novel.

The type of the research is the library research. The subject of the research is the novel The Kite Runner. Children friendship in Afghanistan tribe as reflected in the novel is the object of this research. The researcher used the observation and documentation method to collect the data. After the data is gathered, the researcher focusing on analyzing the story of the novel to find out the children friendship in Afghanistan tribe as reflected in the novel. The researcher used literary research by descriptive qualitative method and supported by one of Wellek and Waren’s sociology of literature.

The result of the study can be concluded as follow: in the novel The Kite Runner found that Hosseini is able to describe first, the Afghan’s life, second, the fact about the children friendship in Afghanistan tribe which consist of making children friendship in Afghanistan tribe richer and stronger; the issues in children friendship in Afghanistan tribe; the reasons of the end of children friendship in Afghanistan tribe, third, the form of children friendship in Afghanistan tribe which consist of superficial friendship and common interest friendship , and the forth the moral values of the novel The Kite Runner which consist of loyalty, sacrifice, bravery, and betrayal.
