THE EFFORTS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER TO IMITATE SARAH FERGUSON’S LIFE AS REFLECTED IN DANIELLE STEEL’S THE GHOST: A PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH

ABSTRACT

The title of this thesis is The Efforts of the Main Character to Imitate Sarah Ferguson’s life as Reflected in Danielle Steel’s The Ghost: A Psychological Approach. The objectives of this analysis is to find out the characterizations of the main character and man’s efforts to imitate Sarah Ferguson’s life describing by Charles Waterston, are observed psychologically and the moral lesson.

In this research, the writer uses the psychological approach to analyze the characterizations of the protagonist character, Charles Waterston in The Ghost. The subject of this research is the novel The Ghost by Danielle Steel. The object of the research is the characterizations of the main character, Charles Waterston in The Ghost. The writer uses observation and documentation as the methodologies of the research. The observation means reading the novel carefully and critically. The result of observation is as documentation, especially the document of the main character, Charles Waterston in The Ghost. The technique of collecting data is qualitative method.

Some of the research findings are as follows: first, the main characters of the novel The Ghost by Danielle Steel is Charles Waterston; he has a flat character The characterizations of the main character, Charles Waterston, are pressured, handsome, hard working, ambitious and lonely. Second, he does efforts for his life. He leaves London and goes to New York, get his new love in Deerfield. Finally he lives happily.
