English and Arabic Coordinating Conjunctions “A comparative Study”.

ABSTRACT

The research is entitled “English and Arabic coordinating conjunctions “A
comparative study”. The writer is motivated to choose the comparative study in this
thesis because of a few reasons. They are, firstly, the writer has ever studied and
practiced English and Arabic in Islamic boarding school where the students are
obliged to learn in English and Arabic deeply especially grammatical study and
secondly, many people learn languages in order to increase their language skill to
achieve purpose.


The aims of the research are: 1) finding out the ways of forming and
rule English and Arabic coordinating conjunction, 2) finding out the differences and
similarities between English and Arabic coordinating conjunction. This research is
also dedicated to support the readers, especially linguistic researcher to improve the research towards linguistic works. To analyze it, the writer offers the three steps conducting the research; they are presenting the data, analyzing the data, and finding out the result of the research.Based on the earlier statement, the subject of the study is the English and Arabic coordinating conjunction. And the object of the study is similarities and differences between English and Arabic coordinating conjunction. Sudaryanto says that there are some certain method concepts used by linguistic researchers. They are descriptive, comparative structural method. The writer uses the comparative method because this method is appropriate method used by the writer in connection with his subject of research.

Apparently, the writer finds the similarities and the differences in his research. Then the writer analyzes and classifies the similarities and the differences. Both English and Arabic similarities are 1). Conjunction, in Arabic and English, is divided into two kinds; coordinating conjunction and subordinating conjunction. 2) The functions of Arabic’s and English’s coordinating conjunction generally are the same namely joining words, phrases, and sentences. And the difference is that Arabic
coordinating conjunction has explicit and implicit meaning.
