- THE STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL OF THE MAIN CHARACTER AS REFLECTED IN CHRISTOPHER PAOLINI’S ERAGON

ABSTRACT

This thesis entitled The Struggle for survival of the Main Character as Reflected in Christopher Paolini’s “Eragon”: A psychological study is intended to answer two problems: 1) To find the characterization of the main character in the novel Eragon observed psychologically, 2) To find the survival of the main character in the novel Eragon. The reasons to analyze this novel are: First, Eragon as one Trilogy Inheritance of Christopher Paolini’s work is interesting to be discussed because this novel has the psychological problem, has a lot of adventure, the story is easy to read and understand and the language is easy to be understood and message of a real morale which benefit to life. Second, Christopher Paolini presents particularly interesting adventure for the readers. Third, the novel is rarely analyzed by the students of Ahmad Dahlan University.

The subject of the research is Christopher paolini’s novel Eragon. While the object of the research is the psychological analysis; that is analyzed the struggle of the main character that found in the novel Eragon. In collecting the data, the writer employs the library research. The main data is taken from the novel Eragon composed by Christopher Paolini. The supporting data are taken from books, journals,and internet sources that support and explain the main data. After the data gathered, they analyzed by using theory of psychology by Wellek and Warren (1956).

Some of the research findings are follows: 1) Characterization of the main character, confidence, cares, brave, high motivation, hopeless, confused. 2) Characterization of the main character observed psychologically. In this research the researcher focuses on the struggle for survival of the main character.
