ABSTRACT
This thesis entitled Andrea’s Struggle against Her Boss’s Cruelty as reflected in Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada: A psychological study is intended to answer three problems: 1) To find the characterization of the main character in the novel The Devil Wears Prada observed psychologically, 2) To find the cruelty of a boss and the struggle of the main character in the novel The Devil Wears Prada, 3) To draw the moral values in the novel. The reasons to analyze this novel are: first, The Devil Wears prada as one masterpiece of Lauren Weisberger’s work is interesting to be discussed because it consists of many psychology values and message of a real morale which benefit to life. Second, Lauren Weisberger presents particularly interesting theme and issue for the readers. Third, the novel is rarely analyzed by the students of Ahmad Dahlan University.
The subject of the research is all the data in the novel The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger, while the object of this research is the theory of psychological approaches that supporting the subject of the research. The data is collected by using note technique method. Reading the novel is the first step in finding the features of the character and characterization. After observing the data, the next step is visiting some libraries to get more references and recording, and filtering the data taken from the references. To determine the psychological feature of Andrea Sach is the next step of this research. And the last step of this research is determining the moral values that can be taken from the main character’s experience.
Some of the research findings are follows: 1) Characterization of the main character, namely; beautiful, brilliant, simple, hard worker, and self confidence. 2) Characterization of the main character observed psychologically. In this research the researcher focuses on the struggle of the main character against her boss’s cruelty. 3) There are some moral values can be taken from the novel, namely; sacrifice, self confidence, and hard working.
