- FEMINIST PERSPECTIVES IN NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE’S RAPPACCINI’S DAUGHTER

ABSTRACT

The Rappaccini’s Daughter is the one of Hawthorne’s works, which contains feminism value; hence the writer of this graduating paper would like to reveal Hawthorne’s perspectives about feminism. To key understanding Feminist Perspectives in Rappaccini’s Daughter that is after read the story the writer found the exploration human being particularly as a story about patriarchy system causes women on oppression by the men.

In conducting the study, the writer uses sociology and radical feminist theory. Using these approachs this study focus on the issue of women condition at the 1840’s. A radicak feminist theory is applied to view the feminism value in the short story.

As result of this thesis, the short story of Hawthorne Rappaccini’s Daughter described the phenomena of women in America. Women express themselves as her father’s insistences as preferring work under men. Women unquestionably had been subordinate to men within the family. But however in Rappaccini’s Daughter , Hawthorne would like to show his thought on women’s that the patriarchal system is still undeniable fact.
