AN ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURE OF ENGLISH DIALOGUE ON JOHN GRISHAM’S BLEACHERS

ABSTRACT


This research is entitled “An Analysis of Structure of English Dialogue on John Grisham’s Bleachers”. It is intended to find out the forms of the dialogue, the components of dialogue and how the components of dialogue are interrelated in constructing the whole dialogue in Bleachers novel written by John Grisham.

The researcher uses descriptive-qualitative research design. She takes words, phrases, sentences as her data. In this research the researcher collects the data by using noting technique. The researcher analyzes the data using descriptive technique.

The research findings show that there are three forms of dialogue found in this study. They are open issue, guided issue, own hall meeting. While the public policy and learning circle are not found in this study. There are four kinds of the components of dialogue found in this study. They are personnel (side participants, bystanders, and eavesdroppers); common ground; joint action; and contribution. The components of dialogue are interrelated one another in constructing the whole dialogue. The interrelationship is built through adjacency pairs. They influence one another to be patterned unit when they are analyzed.
