- THE SUN ALSO RISES AS THE REFLECTION OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY’S LIFE: EXPRESSIVE APPROACH

ABSTRACT

This research is entitled “The Sun Also Rises as a reflection of Ernest Hemingway’s Life: Expressive Approach”. This research intended: (1) to describe the reflection of Ernest Hemingway’s life in the novel; (2) to know the relation between the setting of The Sun Also Rises and the background of the author; (3) to know the relation between the character and characterization of the main character in the novel and the background of the author.

In this research, the writer uses the expressive approach to analyze the relation between the novel and the author’s life. The essential subject in this research is the novel it self. To collect the data, the writer visits the library; the writer takes the data from the internet to get some information of the data the writer also uses descriptive qualitative technique to give clear explanation of the problem statements.

The result of the study shows two of the research findings as reflection on Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises are: first, similarities between social life in the novel and the background of the author are setting, social environment, war wound and reflection of the expatriate’s life style in 1920s The Sun Also Rises (Lost Generation). Second, similarities individual life between the character and characterization of the main character in the novel and the background of the author are life style, love story and profession.
